| A No-Bullshit Guide to Over 50 of the Best Max Payne mods available
presented by Jonathan Hallier aka. Maddieman
Introduction by biXen
One of the many changes here at PayneReactor in these times are the change of the mod section. I've been wanting to do something here for a while, and this finally gave me an excuse. What you will find here now is a big list of good mods, at the moment only for Max Payne 1, but we'll fill in with Max Payne 2 mods as they come. This whole list has been compiled by Maddieman in his effort to show "the world" that the MP mod community has actually done a lot, and looking at this list it really has. And there's more to come, but for now, have some fun with some of the mods and Maddie's meanings on them. I'll see what I can do about getting some better presentation on these mods later, but for now I just blame that on Maddie *giggle*
If you came here looking for trouble you came to the wrong place, if you came here looking for tutorials, go to the tutorials/mod help section.
The why and why not's
Apologies in advance for the brief and sometimes brutally honest views presented here. These mods aren't judged predominately on aesthetics, and for a change character I decided to be quite lenient on gameplay (provided they're not so bad that they're unplayable).
The main qualifying factor to gain entry to this list is that they provide new, and original levels, although, obviously there are some notable exceptions. Generally speaking, basic tweakage, gun mods, character model tests, and very basic looking levels have been excluded. ("TC"s in otherwords.) ;)
How to find the best of the best
The mods are not rated on a score/grade system for several reasons:
1) The point is that this is a compilation of *Good* mods. If they weren't good, they wouldn't be here.
2) The idea is to introduce people to good mods that they may not be aware of. Everyone knows Kung Fu is a good mod, but only handful of people have played mods like The Killer or The Lab.
3) Quality is subjective. What's the difference between a mod that scores 7 and a mod that scores 8? Or a mod that gets 94% and one that get's 93%? When it comes down to these decisions, reviewers tend to make them up, or pick something that sounds right. You won't find that here.
So, just try one -- it won't bite you (except Froz's psychopath's diary -- that one's quite nasty)In my opinion, all of these are worth a look. Granted, some are better than others, but there isn't really a duff one in the crowd -- provided you have a sense of humour. Okay one or two were included for nostalgic reasons -- a good deal of these mods were made as a joke. That said, the one thing you can't take away from the Max Payne mod community is that it has character.
