Gorefest -- Synti & Suprakarma
MPHQ map contest entry. Excellent zombie horror level set in a church & graveyard. Be warned, this map is particularly CPU intensive.

Halo is a Fag - Kendo, zibo, Killerspatula, FFK, and others (you know who you are)
Description from MPHQ:
"um... just download it. new weapons, skins, and a level."
How to say... the ending is 'explosive'.

High Stakes - Adnan
Some pretty decent, and large-ish "story" "driven" levels with voice acting. Part 2 is particularly enjoyable, mainly set in a big villa. Although like so many MP maps, they suffer from what I call "old-school" syndrome -- i.e. you have to face loads of rock hard enemies, and ambushes, but are given a pistol to defend yourself with. Fantastic.
Alright that's an exaggeration, but you may find yourself resorting to cheats to see the ending. Worth playing through though.

Hitman mod 1.1. - BKG
Hugely popular, but grossly overrated weapon mod in my honest opinion; but it's not without merits. To be fair, it's pretty good and does come with a small level, but some of the weapons feel a bit awkward. Camera shaking on gunshots (particularly automatics) is distracting, and changing the cheat codes is slightly irritating, even if you think it's nitpicking.

Holiday -- Dr.Hoshi
One of the best looking maps available -- with a nice, reflective floor; and if I remember right, the gameplay is pretty decent too. A mapper to watch out for n the future.

Just For Fun -- Dr. Hoshi
Another (very) short but good looking level from Dr. Hoshi and co.

"The Katana Mod" -- Maddieman, Zer0
Hack heads and arms off in my limited, but still fun, Katana mod
Download Alpha 1.1.

Max Payne: Kung Fu Edition v3 -- Kenneth Yeung
SO GOOD, EVEN THAT BASTARD BIXEN LIKES IT.

Lightsaber 4 -- Hairless Wookie, Zephyrin_xirdal, StratonAce, and others
I don't ever remember version 1 or 2; but v4 is one of the best most available for Mp1.
It comes with three excellent levels, one of which is made by StratonAce. The first two pit Skywalker running around the Deathstar making short work of storm troopers, dark jedi, and other baddies; while the last one is a 1 on 1 epic battle with a dual saber weilding boss. As you'd expect, the characters, guns, etc, have all been replaced with Star Wars ones, you can use the force, and the mod boasts interesting features such as being able to deflect shots with your lightsabre.
The basic gameplay and level design is excellent (which makes a change), and there are no noticable framerate issues except when the game gets very busy (some weapons use a lot of particles). The only major downside is the sabre combat itself. While functional, the animations aren't exactly that great, which leaves the sabre fighting a bit awkward. Having said that, IMO, the sabre combat in JKII isn't exactly anything to write home about either (compared to the likes of KF3). Arguably, this looks as good as JK, and combined with the Max-FX engine and good level design, I think plays better than it too.

The Lost Levels -- Carl Shedd
An aptly named, excellent RMD quality map pack from pro mapper, Carl Shedd, that picks up the story from where MP1 left.
Unfortunately the map pack was never finished, and the demo only includes the first level. However, rumour has it that the project has moved to MP2 under a new name.

Matrixed Reality 1.1. -- Masterfusion
By far the best of the so called Matrix "TC"s available. Mainly because of the guns that come with it. Sure there's Kung Fu, and one or two matrix-style moves (namely Trinity kick, and bullet dodge); but where the mod really shines is with the firearms. They're suprisingly well balanced, and fairly enjoyable to use, without being irritatingly loud, realisitc, or, well, crap. It also introduces a new shootdodge -- a short of flying carwheel/flip (depending on which direction you dodge); which is easily as good as the aerial shootdodging in KF3, despite not being quite as polished.

'PuPu' Edition from FilePlanet
The Matrix Revolutions -- The One, SmashingDude, Versable, and others
A promising looking Matrix TC with levels, character skins, and all the rest. At present there is one demo available allowing you to play as Neo in the Burly Brawl.

Max Match -- Froz
In hindsight, it was inevitable that Froz would break the "Max Payne has no multiplayer. Period." barrier. Another mod that deserves a MP2 makeover (team combat anyone?)

Max NEO -- Kenneth Yeung
Ken, creator of Kung Fu, demonstrates that there's no shame in making a matrix mod.
Pioneered three key things:
1) Matrix Bullet waves.
2) Neo Bullet dodge, which was developed further in Matrixed Reality, and perfected in Real World;
3) A Tradition of terrible Neo models based on the Max Payne mesh. ;)

NARC Prologue -- TehManCalledZee
A pretty decent, non playable, prologue to NARC. A TC which I think has died. Still, focus on what you have, not what you don't, right? :)
