Getting in touch with the staff 18th November 2008 - by biXen

As time goes by many people visit this site, and I realise it may be a bit hard to reach us that run this site. So if you don't want to make a comment or register in the Max Payne forums, feel free to stop by my Portfolio site, I've recently opened it so it's a bit work in progress, but you can contact me there. It's called bee-digital design, visit it here.. If you are interested in web development you might actually find it useful.

Matt also has his own site, he can fill in here. Cypress doesn't have a personal site afaik, so I won't post e-mails here due to spam.

Max Payne movie review 17th November 2008 - by biXen

Well, it's not really a review. But I've seen it, and I thought I'd comment on what I thought is good and bad. Mark Wahlberg was on Top Gear last night by the way, I think he's a likable bloke, but I know that everyone doesn't agree. The movie has 5,9 / 10 at IMDB now. Not too bad for an action movie.

My biggest issue with the movie is the writing and the pacing. I think the writing makes it difficult for the actors to really do a good job. There's just so much unnatural clutter in the dialogue, and the story that seems streamlined and understandable in Max Payne the game becomes confusing as you watch the movie. I didn't really mind the fact that they made the valkyries more important, I could live with that.

But I had a problem with the fact that Max Payne didn't seem very invincible, and the changes in the script threw the pace of the whole story off. It's not really until the last part that Max Payne starts to kick ass, and when you see the movie you'll see that the reason for that is something else than the game. Also, personally I didn't think Mila Kunis was believable as Mona. That turned into one of those chicks that has no place in action movies. There are very few women that are believable heroines, and sadly, Mila Kunis won't be joining them anytime soon.

All in all though, I did like the movie, but I wouldn't give it more than say 6.5 / 10. There's just something about it that's a bit slow and cheap, and I think it could have been done a lot better. But still, worth watching, especially if you liked the games.

As most of you probably have noticed now, the Max Payne movie is getting pretty bad reviews. The "average" at Metacritic is as I'm writing this 29/100. The general opinion seem to be that the movie is a confusing mix of the game's story and other elements thrown in. I guess I was stupid for hoping it was impossible to fuck up something as easy as an action-filled revenge movie :) That's what you get for having a useless scriptwriter and a mediocre director.

I personally haven't seen the movie yet, so I have some hope that it's stylish and ok, we'll see.

Max Payne Movie Clips 10th October 2008 - by Cypress

Yesterday I watched "The Late Night Show" with Jay Leno, whom invited Mark Wahlberg to come and talk about Max Payne the movie. No new information was given, but they did show a few clips from the movie. As I searched for the clips to share them with you I came across some more (6 in total). Of course these clips are huge spoilers, and I would like to reccomend you not to watch them to preserve your experience in the cinema. However, if you really are a hardcore fan and would like them right away click here, here, here, and here. Feel free to discuss about these clips on our forums.

And I gotta say the design really kicks ass! So besides the design, what's all new? Well, the website is filled with new photos, concept art, wallpapers, Aim icons and some stuff for your mobile! The yahoo trailer we recently tipped you about is now available in a higher quality, and so is the grapic novel (Max Payne: The beginning). However, not every feature on the website is unlocked yet. So we better fasten our seatbelts! Yay!

Photos from the movie 3rd October 2008 - by biXen

There's a lot of photos from the Max Payne movie on the net now, and the latest are these: Photos from french 20th Century Fox . (notice how the French can't even write Mark in a non-French way :P) Looks okay, but gotta see the movie to comment anymore since we don't know the basis of the winged figures and how much they have to do with the story.

Feel free to comment in the forums.

Max Payne director John Moore wins his battle. He mentions in an interview with Gamedaily, that he got the movie down to a PG-13 rating without changing much at all. The DVD will have extra footage, especially for fans of the game. Sounds like good news to me, Dark Knight had PG-13 and was pretty dark in my opinion.

Here's a quote from John Moore about how they obtained the PG-13 rating:

"I must say, and that's what's a little bewildering about this, I didn't have to change much. We trimmed some frames more for the sake of trimming frames than anything, but we got the rating without any major changes at all. I'm a little surprised that we changed their minds, effectively, but I'm happy about it. It proves that if you stick to your guns and you have the creative, and dare I say moral sense, that you're in the right, that you can get the right thing done."

No it's not about the infamous "Max Payne theme", unfortunatly. However, the British electronic band Metsuo (founded by Stephen French and Paul Stoney) will provide 4 songs for the soundtrack of the film, three of which will feature on their October released mini album "Poland Mirrors".

You can listen to the "Poland Mirrors" songs (and some others) at their
MySpace profile page.
