Max Payne 3 was originally expected in the winter of 2009. To make any kind of sense of it, I need to go back three years. Back to the day the game got delayed. Again.
Max Payne 3 is now targeted for release in May.
For Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 the game will launch on May 15 in North America, and May 18 in Europe. The PC version will launch a bit later. On May 29th in North America and June 1st in Europe.
Rockstar Games released the dreadful news this morning. Game site Kotaku reported a few minutes before the official statement was released. The reason behind the delay is not mentioned and thus unknown, but I’m pretty sure the developers need more time to polish the game to make it an even more solid experience.
As I’ve aired in the Max Payne 3 topic on the official Alan Wake Forums, the delay was to be expected since the game lacked some essential marketing so close to release. For example: only one of the five Design & Technology videos has seen the light of day, there’s no full website yet and we’ve only seen one trailer of the game.
The official statement went up minutes after Kotaku’s report, resulting in many outcries on message boards. A lot of fans are disappointed because of the many delays the game received so far. But the fanbase does also realise the quality of the game will only improve because of this.
For those of you feeling a bit let down (like myself), just keep in mind you’ll have even more time now to finish Mass Effect 3, which is still targeted for release in March.
Rockstar already revealed the full website and another Design & Technology video are coming this January. My guess is that every month from now a new Design & Techonoly video will be released, with a launch trailer in May.
