I recently did a Exclusive interview with the writer / director, Fergle Gibson of the Max Payne : Payne and Redemption team. Max Payne : Payne and Redemption is a upcoming fan created movie.
Q: What's the estimated runtime of the film?
A: The film will be around 15 minutes long, but is part of a much bigger story.
Q: What format are you shooting on?
A: We are shooting on Hi-Def, à la Sin City. It allows us a lot more control in the long run, and is a HELL of a lot cheaper than film! :)
Q: Is there already a release date planned?
A: We're hoping to release the film in the Summer (2006), but no actual release date has been confirmed as of yet.
Q: What kind of a release is the film going to have?
A: The film will be released worldwide online, free of charge, and at selected cinemas in the United Kingdom.
Q: Will the film be available to purchase?
A: No, as that would be copyright infringement, and copyright infringement is baaaad. We will not be making any profits from this film.
Q: What's the story of the film?
A: Well, it's an original story... I can tell you that much. :)
Q: Is this movie a sequel to the games or a stand-alone piece?
A: Being an original story, the movie is a stand-alone affair and does not tread on the toes of the stories in either Max Payne 1 or 2.
Q: On what locations is the movie going to be filmed?
A: The film is being shot on sets built professionally for the production to capture the essence of "Noir York City".
Q: Will the music used be from the game or composed by someone else?
A: The film will feature an original score composed by Justin R. Durban of Edgen Animations -http://www.edgen.com/ - We are very excited to have him on board!
Q: How did you come up with the idea to make a Max Payne movie?
A: Although primarily a special effects makeup artist, I've been writing for as long as I can remember, and am a big fan of Max Payne and anti-heroes in general. I'd been wanting to make a film for a while, but found it very hard to come up with anything feasible that didn't involve me running around in the woods with a camcorder, screaming, pretending some evil spirit was after me. Then one day the idea for Payne & Redemption just came to mind and I spent every spare moment I had, writing it for around six months... and now here we are.
Q: Is the movie true to the games?
A: The movie is true to the games in as much as staying very faithful to the overall mood and profundity of the Max Payne universe. I.e., dark, brooding, brutal, no holds barred, that type of thing.
Q: Are there any similarities between Max Payne: Payne & Redemption and Max Payne: Hero?
A: Yah... They both feature Max Payne, but that's about it. :)
Q: Do you have a favourite director, or someone you're inspired by?
A: Definitely. Quentin Tarantino's eccentric originality has had a huge influence on the way I look at film today.
Q: Where can we find more information about this movie?
A: Stay tuned to www.payneandredemption.com !
