Remedy has released official example levels and more
This levelpack they released today contains the Dead Man Walking mode map Manor, and another map filled with useful objects (prefabs). This is what Petri Järvilehto of Remedy has to say about it.

"The set includes source .LV2 files for a _huge_ amount of different physical objects, ammo boxes and whatnot as well as the first Dead Man Walking .LV2 file.

Included files:

Physical_objects.lv2 - An extensive compilation of dynamic objects from the game, ranging from chairs and desks to explosive ammoboxes and watercoolers

DMW_Manor_Frontyard.lv2 - Source level file for Manor Front yard Dead Man Walking level
------------------

Have fun :) "

New version of RASMaster including mp2m support
30th October 2003 by Kristian "biXen" Hollund

New version of RASMaster - version 1.2 with .mp2m support
In the Max Payne 2 Mod Tools download section you can now find a new version of the popular RAS Master tool, now with mp2m mod file support as well. Head on over there to check it out.

Texture ripper released
You can now get the textures from the levels Remedy has made. Get the tool LDB2Rip from our MP2 Tools downloads page. Be sure to read the thread at the official forums before downloading it and using the textures.
And PLEASE, for the love of God, try to use textures wisely so all levels don't look like shitty Max Payne 2 ripoffs :\

First Person view mod and Max Payne face actor mod
Froz has made a mod swapping Timothy Gibbs face with Sam Lake's face, so now you can play looking like the original Max Payne. You'll find it in the MP2 Small Mods and Tweaks section. needhelp from the 3D Realms Forums has released a small mod which lets you play the game in first person view, looks very different, worth trying out. Get it here.

Other news
Deep Six also has posted questions they've asked Remedy. Go and check it out. Max Payne Source has an article going with info on how to build a successful mod, a must for all of you that wanna start a mod but don't know where to start. They are currently on part 2, but you'll find the first part easily. Part 2 is here.

Official level addon, changes to our mod sections and more
28th October 2003 by Kristian "biXen" Hollund

For those of you still unsure whether to buy the game or not - Remedy Q/A
First off, you can check gamerankings to see what the average gamer thinks, second of all you can read the questions we popped off to Sam Lake of Remedy. Check them out here.

About contacting me
I get WAY too many mails asking me all sorts of questions. I'm sorry, I don't have time to answer all that, read the contact info page, it says the same there. If you have all sorts of weird questions either use official channels or use one of the forums.

You can also forget about sending me tweak mods or info about tweak mods, I only accept level, mod or tools info with SCREENSHOTS (not for tools) and proper description. And I can't host files for the moment.

New Modsite is up
There's a new modsite in town. It's called MP2 Mods. It has different mod downloads and info on modding Max Payne 2. Head over there and check it out.

Additional levels from Remedy

Remedy has released two new Dead Man Walking gamemode levels. They are called "Upper East Side" and "Mona's Partyground". You can get them in our Mod Section under Max Payne 2 Level downloads.

New source for official themesong
Take 2 has put up a link to the official Max Payne 2 themesong on their page. You can find the link in our Max Payne 2 Downloads section.

Our modsection is totally renewed
Our Good Mods page have turned into a new experience. It's a lot bigger and divided into sections. It's not exactly filled up with content yet, but it will come, for now you can find a great tool, a GUI for Rasmaker2, in the Max Payne 2 Mod Tools section, and the levels released by Remedy in the MP2 Levels section. I am also working on freshing up the tutorial section properly, so hang on for some good changes.

"Last Goodbye" lyrics
Wondered what the lyrics to the song in the credits (and other parts of the game) are? The band is Poets of the Fall and the lyrics can be found at their website. Thanks to |D|O|M|E| for that info.

25th October 2003 by Kristian "biXen" Hollund

Max Payne 2 Mod Tools
That's right. Now you can create your own characters, weapons, levels and most of the other stuff you want. Just get the mod tools here. Tutorials will follow both from Remedy and from other sources, among others here at Payne Reactor. On Sunday, if all goes well, I'll have the new mod section published, it's getting a good spitshine, so you should look forward to that. It's still gonna be the Good Mods only, but a much better overview and so on.

Max Payne 2 Patch 1.01 is out
22nd October 2003 by Kristian "biXen" Hollund

Max Payne 2 Patch 1.01
The patch bringing the game up to version 1.01 contains the following fixes/additions:

* Fixed game crashing to "Exception: Bad Allocation" on Windows 98/Me during loading of certain levels. This may potentially fix other crashes as well.

* Improved loading times on low-end computers.

* Improved Technical Support Tool to include CD-ROM Model.

You can find the links to it in our Max Payne 2 downloads section.

The real-life Max PayneMax 1 and 2 - not a pretty sight
Some have said they want to see the real Max Payne also up here, well I won't make a special page for that. But the name of the actor who plays Max Payne in Max Payne 2 is Timothy Gibbs, you can see his homepage here. His voice is James McCaffrey's, check out some info on him here. In Max Payne the original his face was Sam Lake of Remedy, who's written both the games. Couldn't decide who I'd have a pic of here, so here you have both, nice eh?

Amazon links
As you may have noticed I have some amazon.com links to buy or pre-order a version of Max Payne 2 in my top area. This is because I have a high bandwidth usage with all the visitors, so I need a just in case, so I'd appreciate if you'd support me by using those links for buying Max Payne 2 or anything else you buy off Amazon.com.

More reviews and more Mona
20th October 2003 by Kristian "biXen" Hollund

The model for Mona Sax Mona Sax(y)
Seems my little article about Kathy Tong, who is the actress you see as Mona's face in Max Payne 2, was a success. I have added a couple more images of her in our "Who is the real-life Mona" article. And I've also added the info on how to get her nude in the game, for all you pervs out there. (thanks to Andreas T and Avi Magen for links to new images)

Update: I've added more pics of Mona, thanks to Avi Magen again, she's really beautiful in these new pics, a lot sexier than the nude model everyone seems to love to play with :)

Some more reviews
Actiontrip and icronticGames have mailed me about their reviews, and they are quite different. Actiontrip gives Max Payne 2 82/100 and says it's too short, no shocker. To answer that I think I'll just quote the cons of icronticGames' Max Payne 2 review : "If it lasted months, it would be too short!"
Still, 6 hours sounds short, but I believe the replayability of MP2 is a lot bigger than for MP1, and the mod community has learned quite a bit and is stronger, so I don't think it deserves anything under 90 unless they fucked up some vital bits, which I doubt. At least they were honest. We'll see when I get my hands on the game. Read Actiontrip's review here and icronticGames review here.

Multiplayer
OMG WTF LOL. Some reviews have mentioned that Max Payne 1 had multiplayer, or that it was possible, or that it's possible for Max Payne 2 or whatever. NEWSFLASH: Unless you find the world's best assembly guy you are never going to do jack shit with Max Payne's code. Yes it was done with GTA, but GTA had multiplayer code remnants laying around + it was coded for it, it had tracking of all objects in a low level in the engine, which was used for the replay as well. There ain't never gonna be multiplayer, just enjoy the best single-player experience of the year, play some mods and shut up!

A Big BIG update about Max Payne 2, modinfo and other things
19th October 2003 by Kristian "biXen" Hollund
From now on I'm gonna put a bolded header for every different newsitem in each newspost. This is because some people seem to skip the whole post if one thing in them isn't interesting, now you can skip to the next header. Smart eh? Max Payne 2 is due to be out on Friday in Europe, so the last of us except the console fans will soon get our hands on the game.

Deep Six' Impressions of the New York Trip
WhiteRabbit of Deep Six has posted his impressions of the New York trip me, him and Mika of Remedy had some weeks ago. He writes about his trip and his impressions of the game. He remembers some details I didn't and vise versa, worth checking out. Read it here.
Kathy Tong
Who is the real Mona Sax?
Well her name is Kathy Tong apparently, according to the credits in the game. And some people have asked me to dig up some info on her, well all I could find without some help were some images, and some attributes on her. I think that's her. I have made a little page collecting the info here.

Information about the mod tools
Sami Vanhatalo of Remedy has updated us with some info on what to expect from the modtools of Max Payne 2 which is not included on the cd but will be released soon. Here's a quote from a thread at the official forums.

"The Tools installation package will be about 20MB (give or take a few megs...)

The Tools installation contains pretty much similar (executable for everything and perhaps one sample for each editor), with the exception that:
- during the installation of the tools, the installer can automatically generate a "MaxPayne2Dev" folder which'll contain unras'ed database with modified menu.txt, levels.txt etc so you can get a kick-start into just making a map and not having to worry about RasMaker paths etc...

Then there will be additional "Tutorials" on the official website.

We're currently still testing the Tools package installer, but it's coming..."

Extract sounds, music and dialogue from Max Payne 2
Noticed this over at Deep Six. Now I don't know how to use this so you are on your own if you can't get it to work. But apparently a guy called Alex Shapiro made this program which will extract it for you, get it here.

Maddieman has released LameKatanaLame Katana
Lame Katana is the last version of Katana 2 before Maddieman switched to Kung Fu 3 and the new things that involved. It looks quite fun, so fire up Max Payne and LameKatana to get a taste of Maddiemans twisted mind :) Check out more info at his site, Hell's Kitchen. Download the mod at Max Payne Source.

aavenr of Deep Six is taking a break
aavenr of Deep Six has announced he's stepping back from the Max Payne spotlight for a while, after he realised that real life needs some more attention. So I guess I was right when I wrote that he'd get lazy and busy too. Well I hope the new additions to the Deep Six crew can keep the site up to pace while aavenr has a breather :) Good luck on chilling out aav.

Still haven't decided whether to buy Max Payne 2 or not?
Well here's some collection of reviews, and here's a few screenshots from the game thanks to Andrew.

PayneReactor's Hands-on Preview of MP2 and NY Trip StoryMax kicking ass in MP2 trailer
12th October 2003 by Kristian "biXen" Hollund
I am a bit out of the loop with news currently, I'll summarize some of the more important stuff tomorrow. My hands are kinda tired now, I've been working on the article about my trip to New York for some days now, and it's finally all done. I didn't wanna release it in parts since it gives you a better feel to read it all at once.

There's probably some errors in there, but at the moment I don't care. I just want to get it out there, might correct later. The preview itself is pretty spoilerfree, I don't mention anything related to the story or the actual content of levels, so it should be pretty safe for everyone to read. You all know what characters survived the first one anyway, so that doesn't do any damage. But if you still don't wanna read it it's easy to skip to the other parts, so I hope you'll all enjoy it.

Big news on the horizon
6th October 2003 by Kristian "biXen" Hollund
Sorry for the lack of updates this weekend, but me and WhiteRabbit of Deep Six was invited to New York to check out Max Payne 2. I'll publish part 1 of that article tomorrow or the day after that, with part 2 coming Thursday evening European time. I may delay part 1 and release them both together, we'll see. The Rockstar guys were really cool, and the trip was a success indeed. Anyway, Max Payne 2 is gonna kick ass, and you'll hear about that soon. I'll also update some general news tomorrow, including the fact that Max Payne 2 is now gold, and will be in stores soon. (Going gold means the master cd is duplicated into the copies we play on). Release dates are 15th October in the US and 24th October in Europe. Now for some sleep, going back and forth in time is hard :)
